Warrior King is not merely an entertainer, but an artist with a mission. Ever since he trod onto the Reggae Music scene reminding us of the importance of the balance of natural African union with "Virtuous Woman" his smooth voice has been resonating his positive message.
'The success of "Virtuous Woman" is a testament to the power of this resonance. The infectious roots tune went to number one on so many charts that the 23-year-old 'chanter' has lost count…. England, Miami, New York, Atlanta, Trinidad and most importantly, it spent 13 weeks at the top in his home country of Jamaica.
Seldom does such a clear and positive message come in such a powerful and palatable package. Warrior King has been able to fuse his Rastafarian teachings with melodic and catchy delivery, smooth choruses and tasty reggae 'slurs' have become as much a Warrior King trademark as his positive teachings that encouraged the restoration of the traditional African family and culture. On his follow up hit "Never Go Where The Pagans Go", he sways from rapid fire chanting to even toned harmonies with the ease of a seasoned veteran. The praise for his sisters of African descent on "Empress So Divine" further illustrates the vision of Warrior King. Born Mark Dyer, he explains his musical purpose with poignant and heartfelt turns of phrase reminiscent of his mentor Bob Marley "words are like spiritual food, music is like medicine for the soul" he states.
The student of Human Rights and African Culture states his career as a hard edged deejay who gained comparisons to his early influence, Bounti Killer even taking the name Bounti Junior for a while until he realized that singing was more suitable to expressing his feelings and message.
Growing up, his Mother emphasized the importance of a strong foundation and the natural oneness of the African family. This lesson stayed with him and shapes his songwriting to this day ensuring that Warrior King will always exemplify spirituality in music.
Warrior King's live show has ignited many stage shows including Reggae Sumfest, Fully Loaded and even Sizzla's Birthday Bash, but the one show that stands as the jewel in his crown is performing at the National Stadium in Grenada along with one of his roll models, Luciano. After an impassioned solo performance, he joined Luciano onstage for an emotionally drenched encore in the pouring Caribbean rain.
"I am an instrument in the hands of the Most High," Warrior King states. When asked what the future holds, he humbly offers a quote from H.I.M. Haile Selassie, "Be resilient in your work and attempt to complete whatever you undertake. If you face failure try again and be persist in your determination to attain your goal." Warrior King's aim is for his music to permeate the very soil, wind and humanity of all that it comes in contact with.
